How to Become a FULL TIME Micro Influencer

So, you've heard about social media influencers and would like to try it out for yourself. You enjoy being creative, showing your personality on social media, and connecting with your internet friends. But now, you're thinking, "How in the world do I get started?".

Growing as a Micro-Influencer 📈

Growing on social media is crucial, but growing ORGANICALLY is key! Buying followers is never the answer. It diminishes your credibility and is highly frowned upon in the industry. Just know that quality in followers matters so much more than the number of followers you have.

Cross-platform promotion is a great way for all your accounts to grow. Your followers on one platform might trickle over to your other social media platforms because they enjoy your content and want to interact with you on other platforms as well. The content on each platform is slightly different, so followers are getting to see a different side of their favorite influencer.

Finding Your Niche 🔍

A niche is a position or activity that suits somebody’s talents or personality. It’s something that differentiates someone from the millions of others on social media. A niche can be anything from yoga to fishing or from peanut farming to gardening.

When starting out, it is recommended to have a niche because you'll be able to develop your own recognizable, personal brand. Potential followers will know what to expect from you.

Picking a niche shouldn't be hard! Ask yourself some questions like what are you most passionate about and what topics could you make tons of content out of. Once you have a niche, you have to start actually creating the content. The goal here is to get your accounts filled with quality content.

The thing about being an influencer is that you have to start acting like one before you're a full-time influencer. Have you ever heard of the saying, "Fake it till you make it"? Well, that saying definitely applies here!

Act Like an Influencer 📱

Simply put, you're never going to grow or have a following if you don't post. You want potential followers to have content to scroll through so they can decide if they want to follow you or not. You wouldn't follow someone who hasn't posted since 2015, would you?

Also, a brand isn’t going to send you free product or pay you if they don’t know the quality of your content.

Working with Brands 🤝

When you're starting out, you're going to have to do the heavy lifting and reach out to brands.

You can reach out for both gifted AND paid — don't feel bad to ask for payment because your

work is valuable and it takes time to create quality content.

With Millennials and Generation Z entering the workplace, brands will begin to recognize and value the power that influencers hold in social media. Additionally, as more social platforms are introduced, there are going to be innovative ways for influencers to make their mark.

Red Flags 🚩

  • Never pay for shipping

  • Compliments are super broad or weird

  • Their follower to like count do not match up

  • IG DM is super long and includes words like FREE and GIFT

  • They ask to collab via IG comments
