How to Pitch to Brands
Pitching yourself to a brand can seem so intimidating at first. You want to be sure you make a good first impression that stands out from all the other emails sitting in their inbox. Before we begin, let's just understand that it is okay to email a brand and ask for them for a collaboration. You are being proactive and it shows interest!
What is a Pitch Email? ✉️
By definition, a pitch is an email addressed to a specific person or company. But, it’s not just any email. Pitch emails should be 2-3 paragraphs max in length. Your pitch email is your time to shine and show brands why they should work with you!
Pitching Yourself 💬
Once you have an email to reach out to, make sure your media kit (also known as your influencer resume) is ready to go. Whether you attach your media kit in your initial email or wait for the brand to ask for it is totally up to you (the same goes for your rates!). But, it's important to have your media kit handy just in case. Some content creators wait for brands to ask for it for various reasons.
Keep the email short and concise. The goal here is to make a lasting impression in the fastest possible way. For example, ensure that all of your links in the email are hyperlinked so that everything that the person reading your email needs is right there in front of them.
With that being said, it's important that everything email is personalized and shows your personality. You don't want your email to lack personality because showing your personality will help you stand out. Doing so, helps the brand understand who you are a little better! Also, simply copying and pasting will not do you any good in the long run. It's easy to tell when you are mass sending this to multiple companies because it lacks personalization. Lastly, it is crucial to always keep it professional which means no misspelling, no slang terms, incomplete sentences, etc.
There are so many different things you can include in your pitch email. It is all about finding what works for you! If you just follow the general pointers given throughout this blog, you should be set. Here is an example of a pitch email that was used in our webinar, "Micro-Influencer Money Moves" where they talk about reaching out to brands for brand collaboration opportunities.
