How to Revive Your YouTube Channel
Every social media platform is difficult to grow, but YouTube can seem like one of the most difficult platforms to grow organically. Think about all the time it takes to film and edit an 8-minute video. And, you can't forget about the thumbnail, the video description, keywords, or the info cards that appear throughout your video. Yet, YouTube still remains a popular social media platform that content creators want to pursue. Why? Because YouTube is the place to connect with your audience because of its long-form video content which allows us to get to know our favorite creators.
YouTube Statistics 📊
As of recent, YouTube is still the world’s second-most visited website and visitors spend an average of 19 minutes a day on YouTube (averaging about 1-2 videos per day). YouTube is widely known for its how-to videos. There are numerous how-to videos (also known as tutorials) on YouTube which explains why one-third of internet users has watched a tutorial or how-to video this week.*
YouTube for Creators 🎨
In late 2021, YouTube released a new feature, the New to You tab, where it recommends a selection of videos based on your viewing behavior. We have a complete blog post that thoroughly explains YouTube's New to You feature and how you can benefit from it if you're interested in learning more about it.
If you're familiar with YouTube, you'll recognize YouTube's selection of recommended videos. However, New To You videos are completely tailored to your viewing history and preferences. This is great news for creators and users because YouTube is being proactive about ways to keep its users engaged and on the platform for longer.
Channel Tips 💡
Take this time to restrategize and try something you haven't done before. YouTube is just like any other social media platform, so there are so many pieces to consider such as keywords, the title of your video, what your video is about, etc.
How to revive your channel:
Make the title of your YouTube attention-grabbing
Make your thumbnail visually appealing
Promote your YouTube videos in appropriate Facebook groups, GroupMe, Slack, and Geneva groups
Ask your followers on TikTok and Instagram what kinds of videos they would prefer to see
Take a look at the kind of videos that are currently performing well on YouTube
Ask yourself, "Is my video interesting? Would I watch this YouTube in its entirety? Would I click on this YouTube video?"
Just like with any social media platform, there will be ups and downs, but don't let that hinder you from creating content that fuels you. Remember that this happens to everyone!
Examples ✨
You can still make thumbnails that fit your brand and personal style, but make sure your thumbnails are eye-catching and click-worthy! And, your titles should spark curiosity to let your viewers know what they’re getting out of the video. YouTube titles such as "Q&A" don’t tell a potential watcher what kind of questions and topics you will be answering, instead opt in for "Q&A: starting a new job, moving to a different state, my major in college". The same thing applies for vlogs. For example, "Work Week in my Life: launching a startup, lots of meetings, balance" is a dynamic title that will catch the interest of your audience.
